Short Bio
Santi Seguí is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Universitat de Barcelona. He received the degree in Computer Science from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (2006) and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2011 with a rating of excellent Cum Laude. Since 2017, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. Previously, Postdoc Researcher at Computer Vision Center (2011-13), Lecturer at University of Barcelona (2012-17). During this period, he had done two postdoctoral stays at the University of Toronto (2014 and 2017) under the supervision of Dr. Sven Dickinson and one at Carnegie Mellon University (2011) under the supervision of Dr. Fernando De la Torre.
Research
His research is a researcher in machine learning and data science with special emphasis on recommender systems and addressing the challenges of limited and scarce data. He participated in more than 15 national and European competitive projects, in the fields of computer vision, medical image analysis, and recommender systems.
Awarded with the 2n position in the Academic Leaderboard from ACM RecSys Challenge 2021 and gold Medal in the category of 'layout Tester' challenge organized by Pascal Challenge 2010. He has been part of the scientific program committee in several national and international conferences and workshops, and he is a reviewer in several journals and conferences with international impact.
Co-director of one of the 38 winning projects of the Artificial Intelligence in Health & Care NHS Award 2021 (UK): Detecting bowel cancer – using AI to analyse video recordings of the gastrointestinal tract, taken from a swallowable camera, to target bowel cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases.
